A Great Evening!

“What odious American organization could claim 2300 members in Saskatchewan in 1927?”  (You can find the answer at the bottom of this post.)

This is just one of the questions from Quiz Master Andrew Black that had quizzers scratching their heads while discussing possible answers in clandestine whispers at the Oh Canada! Team Trivia Night fundraiser sponsored by the Comox Valley Council of Canadians.

016Guffaws – along with a few moans and loud groans filled the air as 144 quizzers’ expertise and wits were challenged by the 60 all-Canadian trivia questions. “This was a fun-filled community event that tested everyone’s knowledge on Canada’s rich arts, cultural and social history,” said Chapter member, Kathie Woodley. It was a wonderful opportunity to raise awareness of our great county in an entertaining way, Woodley noted, while also raising funds for the important work of the Council of Canadians.

Grateful thank you’s to the following local merchants for their generous support of the 10th annual Comox Valley Council of Canadian’s Oh Canada! Team Trivia Night. The beautiful gift baskets from Quality Foods, Thrifty Foods, and Dr. Chris Becir. The K’omoks Estuary Walk from Dan Bowen and Bill Heidrick of Project Watershed. Along with the generous donations from Sure Copy, Natural Pastures Cheese, John’s Independent Grocer, Tee Box, Scoops and Slices, Roxanne’s, Coastal Community Credit Union – Comox Branch, the Farmers’ Market vendors – Bates Beach, Fiesta Greenhouses, Merville Organics, Prontissima Pasta and Tin Town Tacos, and from Cumberland’s Riders Pizza, The Waverly, Mars on Main and Cumberland Brewery.

Also to World Community who, for the past 10 years have helped supply the winning teams their prizes of fair trade coffee and chocolate bars and to Andrew Black the evening’s entertaining quizmaster for his amazing 60 questions covering all things Canadian.

The 10th Annual Trivia Night could not have happened without the many wonderful volunteers – thank you! And, as always it’s a pleasure working with the great group at the Florence Filberg Centre – so professional and helpful.

All the generous donations help make it possible for the Chapter to continue the work in our community to stand up for democracy and our common Canadian values.

The Chapter was pleased that with the proceeds from the 50/50 draw they were able to donate $262 to AIDS Vancouver Island – Comox Valley.

PS The answer to the question is…the Ku Klux Klan.  Hard to believe!
